Untangle (“the app”, “we”) helps you track your own subscriptions. We built it to be private by default. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
What we collect — nothing, on our side
Untangle has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no servers that collect your data. We do not operate a backend that receives your subscription information. We never ask for, store, or transmit bank logins, card numbers, or payment credentials. The app makes a single third-party network request — to fetch currency exchange rates — which sends no personal data; see Currency exchange rates below.
Where your data lives
- On your device. Your subscriptions, categories, payment-method labels, and settings are stored locally on your device.
- In your private iCloud, if you sign in. If you choose to sign in and enable sync, your data is mirrored to your own private iCloud database via Apple's CloudKit. It syncs between your devices through your Apple Account. We have no access to it — it lives in your iCloud, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Sign in with Apple (optional)
Signing in is optional; the app works fully without an account. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive only the name and email you choose to share (you may use Apple's “Hide My Email”). This is stored only in your device's Keychain to identify your account for sync. It is not sent to us. You can use Apple's “Hide My Email” at any time.
Purchases
Premium is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the transaction; we never see your payment details. Purchase status is provided to the app by Apple's StoreKit.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app schedules local renewal and cancellation reminders on your device. No notification data leaves your device.
Currency exchange rates
To show costs in the currency you choose, the app fetches daily exchange rates from a third-party provider, open.er-api.com, over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. This is the app's only outbound network request. It sends no personal data — only the base currency code (for example, “USD”); as with any web request, your device's IP address is visible to the provider. Rates are cached on your device and used offline, and if the request fails the app falls back to the last saved rates or a bundled snapshot. The provider's own terms govern how it handles the request.
Deleting your data
- Delete any item in the app to remove it (a trash lets you restore first).
- Delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your local data and your private iCloud data and signs you out. This is irreversible.
- Deleting the app removes all local data.
Children
Untangle is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children (we collect nothing on our side at all).
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
